How I Became Kannywood’s Most Sought After Actress- Rahama Hassan

Right now, Rahama Hassan is the hottest actress in the Hausa movie industry known as KANNYWOOD. This pretty University of Abuja, Business Administration graduate is one lady who commands great respect not only for her talents but also because she has a great personality. She is from Okene in Kogi state and has recorded a phenomenal rise in her career having featured in many movies: Rahama is on the top list of producers in the North. Physically, she is a beauty to behold with a lovely physique, glowing chocolate complexion and charming smile.
Rahama opens up on how she became the highest-paid kannywood actress:

YOUR NAME PRECEEDES YOU IN THE INDUSTRY BUT NOT MUCH IS KNOWN ABOUT YOU. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF?
My name is Rahama Hassan, I am from Kogi State, Okene to be precise. I am a graduate of University of Abuja where I read Business Administration. I did my youth service in Gombe State and in the course of my youth service I joined the movie industry (kannywood).
HOW LONG HAVE BEEN IN THE INDUSTRY?
I have been acting since my primary school days. I was also in Nollywood briefly but the breakthrough was not forthcoming so when I got an opportunity in Kannywood I jumped at it because I speak Hausa very well.
HOW MANY MOVIES HAVE YOU ACTED IN?
I have done quite a lot, I have done over 50 movies.
WHICH MOVIE SHOT YOU TO LIMELIGHT?
It is “Maryam Dianna”, a movie about a young lady who got married but got attracted to a younger man
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU HAVE FACED AS AN ACTRESS?
I will say it has to do with travelling from one location to another, spending ½ weeks on location. Ii have been doing a lot of travelling of late and in Kannywod, we have the challenge of lack of investors in the industry.
WITH YOUR MUSLIM BACKGROUND, ARE YOUR PARENTS IN SUPPORT OF YOUR ACTING PROFESSION?
Yes, they are in support 100%. They know acting is what I have their total support
EVEN WITH THE GENERAL BELIEF THAT ACTRESSES ARE WAYWARD?
Yes I live with my parents and they go through my scripts and they know my schedules. I go to locations from my house.
WHAT IS THE HIGHEST FEE YOU HAVE BEEN PAID FOR A MOVIE?
The highest is 450,000. As I said earlier we lack investors in the Hausa movie industry unlike Nollywood where actresses are paid huge amount of money. The regular fee for A-class actresses is between 250,000 and 350,000 naira but I collected 450,000 naira for the movie I just finished last month in Gombe; it is called ‘Dan Marayan Zaki’.
DOES THAT MAKE YOU THE HIGHEST – PAID HAUSA ACTRESS?
Yes, for now I think Rahama Hassan is the highest –paid Hausa actress. They don’t really pay well but they pay me because they know the kind of services I offer, I am very serious person. When I get a script I read it and sometimes call attention of the director for any correction to improve the script. Most of them call me lady director because of the correction I try to make and I interpret my roles very well.
CAN YOU DO A ROMANTIC SCENE? I MEAN KISSING, HUGGING AND SO ON?
Ah no oooo (laughs). I can’t, it’s against my religion. I am a Muslim but not a fanatic, I pray 5 times daily but I can’t expose my body for anything. In Kannywood we don’t expose our bodies, we don’t kiss or hug, we are only allowed to wear outfits that will show some curves. I’m not against the western way of dressing; I wear jeans and good top that cover me well.
AS A PRETTY ACTRRESS, HOW DO YOU COPE WITH MALE ADMIRERS?
By the special grace of Allah I have a way of talking to them but some of them won’t just let go so I just make them my fans.
ARE YOU IN A RELATIONSHIP?
(laughs) Yes but I don’t want to talk about him please.
IS HE IN THE INDUSTRY?
No but he is a friend of the industry
