The novelty is yet to completely wear off from the controversial swapping (porting) of Etisalat with MTN by Hafiz Oyetoro aka Saka.
The brand endorsement move, which has been a trending talking point
in the country, is said to have increased Saka’s earning capacity by a
cool N20 million and amidst the whirlwind of reactions, is a man
unapologetic and grateful for his good fortune.
“To the glory of God, level don change. Let me put it like
that. I believe that in the nearest future, level will finally change.
But now, level don dey change. I have murdered poverty and God has
finally murdered it for me. I am no longer poor, but very comfortable.” Saka revealed in an interview.
Earlier, before his new romance with MTN, he had earned his living
primarily as a comic screen man, carving a niche for himself in the
uber-dynamic and competitive terrain of Nigerian comedy.
Once he was an obscure figure, his talents hidden from the eyes of
the law. He kept his head above water by utilizing his Theatre Arts
degree from the Obafemi Awolowo University to earn part-time lecturing
job at the Olabisi Onabanjo University before moving to Adeniran
Ogunsanya College of Education in Ijanikin.
But now he’s household stuff, and his name resonates in all circles.
For a man who once got jilted by a lover because of overwhelming
poverty, he’s in the big time, and deservedly so.
