Dixon's Diary - Patricia Etteh

Whoa! Can you believe it? This picture that you are looking at is the picture of Mrs. Pat Foluke Etteh when she clocked 15. Whether you like it or not, it’s her. There is no need of debating on that. I got this picture from my big aunty who happens to be her friend when they were in secondary school.  Honorable Patricia Etteh has grown up to be a very famous name in the ears of Nigerians.

The reason is because she is Nigeria’s first and only woman (atleast for now) to emerge as the speaker of the national assembly of Nigeria. For some reasons, she did not stay long on the position because she was alleged to have mismanaged the sum #628million. Whether or not is true I don’t know because I don’t act nosy in other people’s affair. I am just a staff at Radio360naija.

This post is not just for you to look at the picture and get amazed. This post is actually for us as a youth to have a rethink of where we are coming from, where we are and most importantly where we are going. When I was talking with my big aunt, she said ‘Foluke never had the mind of being a politician not to even mention being the speaker of the national assembly. She went on to explain to me that Foluke always had a positive mind of changing her immediate surroundings.

Can you imagine that? Someone who only had the mind of changing her immediate neighborhood has gone so far in taking major decisions for her country.  A popular saying goes like this ‘where you are going should look nothing like where you have been’. Another one says ‘there is no condition that is permanently permanent’. Series of questions might have crossed our minds like; ‘when and how am I going to secure a good job?’

‘When am I going to save my first #1million?’ ‘When am going to buy my first Range Rover?’ ‘When am I going to buy my first property at Abuja or Lekki?’ ‘When am I going to be able to provide for my family in comfort?’ And so on. Personally, I believe answers will come if we stay focused on what we know how to do by trying to make the best out of it. This country might prove a little bit cumbersome for you to make it. Just remember that, as hectic as things are, some people are still making it even large.
I am sure that is a clue for you not to give up on your dreams. Patricia Etteh is where she is today because she did not give up on her dreams. My last words for you my dear reader is to keep hustling, God will bless it someday.

Beautiful readers, please keep date with me next Friday on Dixon’s diary to catch a glimpse on what happened between me and one government official like that.
In case you have one or two things that happened to you too and you might wanna share it and you will have it posted live on Radio360naija’s blog with your name, you can send an e-mail to dixon_damilola@yahoo.com
